HUNTINGTON - The Ripley High softball team picked up a gritty win in Huntington on Monday when the Lady Vikings (4-1) defeated the Lady Highlanders 5-3 in a Mountain State Athletic Conference showdown.

Chelsey Hager was on the hill for Ripley, the senior All-Stater hurled seven tough innings while fanning 15 Huntington batters. Hager did it with her bat as well, blasting a 3-run homer to help secure the victory for Coach Ken Swisher’s crew.

After Kelsey Moore singled in the first, Ashley Mellinger was plunked. Allie Hamilton ran for Mellinger prior to Hager’s gigantic blast.

Dusti Fisher picked up two RBIs in the fifth when she plated Moore and Mellinger with a sharp daisy cutter to the outfield.

RIPLEY HITTING - Kelsey Moore was 3-for-3 with two runs, Dusti Fisher was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Allie Hamilton had two runs.
The Ripley varsity/jayvee hosted Pikeview for a contest last night and the jayvee is scheduled for a showdown today (Saturday) with the Mercer County School. The Lady Vikings used stellar pitching, timely hitting and lock-down defense to defeat Woodrow Wilson 9-1 on Thursday evening. Look for coverage in a future edition of JN.
