  • OAK HILL - Coach Casto’s crew exploded for nine runs in the second inning while hurlers Jared Bumpus and Trevor Tucker combined to keep Oak Hill on the ropes and Ripley High cruised to a 15-3 victory on the road.
Ripley (3-0) was on fire in the second frame. Tucker singled and Anthony Jarvis laced a double to center field advancing Tucker to third. Both base runners scored when Bumpus helped his own cause with a single. Bumpus advanced to second on the throw. Christopher Jordan’s selective eye drew a walk. Easton Berry then blistered a single towards short and the runners advanced. Jonny Stepp was then plunked and Bumpus crossed the dish to make the score 3-0.
Isaac Koontz then laced a double to centerfield as Jordan and Berry scored. Jonny Stepp advanced to third on the play as sophomore Cody Pittenger strolled to the plate. On an 0-2 count, Pittenger blasted an offering over the right field fence for a 3-run four-bagger and Ripley led, 8-0. Tucker came to the plate again in the inning and singled and later advanced to third before scoring on an Oak Hill fielding error off of the bat of Jarvis.
In the third, Stepp doubled in Berry to make the score 10-0.
In the fourth, the Vikings kept the pressure on when Dalton Wentz and Tucker and scored on a sharp daisy cutter from Stepp. Christopher Jordan hit a rocket to shortstop and plated Jarvis to bring the score to 13-3. Ripley tacked on two more on passed balls to complete a successful evening of prep baseball.
Oak Hill’s Chris Hysell doubled in a run off of Bumpus, but it would be the hardest hit ball of the night from the arm of Ripley’s sophomore left-hander.
“As a team, we are playing really well offensively and hitting our spots on the hill,” said Coach Casto after the game.
“Bump” threw four innings and surrendered seven hits while walking one and fanning three. Trevor Tucker hurled a successful clean up inning in the mercy rule shortened contest.
