JACKSON COUNTY - U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin, (D-WV) is scheduled to visit Jackson County on Thursday where he will provide legislative updates and address the Elk River chemical spill among other issues facing our county, state and nation.

The senator will undoubtedly address his most recent piece of legislation, the Chemical Safety and Drinking Water Protection Act of 2014.

The southern tip of Jackson County was affected by the chemical spill where about 300 American Water customers reside.

A “Coffee and Common Sense” event is scheduled at The Downtowner restaurant in Ripley located at 119 Court Street from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m..

At 12:45 p.m. Manchin will meet with about 30 students at Ravenswood High School where he will speak about government and take questions from those in attendance.

The seven county tour will also touch down in Cabell, Fayette, Monongalia, Putnam, Mason and Raleigh counties this week.
