  • Mary Beth Park, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on December 28, 2013.  She was born June 23, 1941 in Atlanta, GA, to Louis B. and Ruth Slay Anderson.  Raised in Asheville, NC, Mary Beth graduated from The College of William and Mary, and from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies.
Her areas of interest were always psychology and philosophy; she used her experience and education to serve both the schools and the communities in which she lived.  Mary Beth was a school psychologist in Jackson County  (WV), and the past acting director of the Pinellas County  (FL) Mental Health Association. She helped build libraries, parks and school programs with her leadership and fund raising, and was active in many civic organizations.  Since retiring, she and Bob  have traveled the globe, seeing every continent.  Ever curious, she would read and plan for months and then off they would go, from the Antarctic to the Arctic Circle, China and Europe.  Crossing the US many times in their motor home, they visited  over 300 State and National Parks.  She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Her ability to listen, solve problems, laugh heartily, give generously  and earn the respect of all who knew her were unique gifts.
Mary Beth is survived by her devoted husband Robert Kirk Park II, children Deborah P. Wickiser (Michael), Katherine C. Park, and Robert Kirk Park III (Susan).  She is also survived by her mother, Ruth Slay Anderson, of Burlington, NC, sisters Carol R. Styles (Bert), and Sue Harvin (David).  Also surviving are grandchildren Victoria, Margaret, Maxwell, Dakota and Jordan.  She was pre-deceased by her father.  A memorial service was held on December 28, 2013, with the Rev. David Harvin, her brother-in-law, officiating.
The family would like to thank The Florida Cancer Specialists and Suncoast Hospice for exceptional nurture and personal attention, state-of-the-art care, and assistance with peaceful passing.  In lieu of flowers, please honor Mary Beth’s memory with donations to the Suncoast Hospice, 5771 Roosevelt Blvd, Clearwater, FL 33760.
