  • Velva Lee Wayne Duckworth of Ravenswood went to be with the Lord December 17 in Liberty Lake, Washington following a long illness. She was born in Cowen, WV to Floyd and Stella Tyler Wayne. Vel was valedictorian of Cowen High School and a West Virginia University graduate. She and her husband owned Ravenswood Toy and
    Sport Center when they first moved to Ravenswood. She was leader of Hilltoppers 4-H Club for many years and an active member of First Baptist Church Ravenswood, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and on many boards.
    Surviving are her devoted husband of 60 years, Arthur; son and daughter-in-law Mitchell and Blenda Duckworth of Covington, Virginia; daughters and sons-in-law Valerie and Stan Binczewski of Newman Lake, Washington, and Tammie and Alan Kole of Johns Creek, Georgia; grandchildren Nicholas (Jennifer), Kristan, Laura and Matthew Binczewski; Brett and Blake Kole.
    A family memorial service will be conducted in Washington, with a celebration of life ceremony in Ravenswood at a later date.
    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church, 215 Ann Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164. Condolences can be sent to Art Duckworth at 26402 E. Timberwolf Lane, Newman Lake, WA 99025.
