Jack Burton “Papaw” Whitney, 82, of the Evergreen Hills community, Cottageville, WV, passed away December 9, 2013, in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV.

He was born December 23, 1930, in Dorothy, Raleigh County, a son of the late Charles Porter and Eva Ruth (O’Dell) Whitney. His brother, Ben Whitney, and sisters, Louise Nutter, Nina Luikart and Mary Lane, also preceded him in death.

Jack was a 1949 graduate of Richwood High School. He was a former employee of Creighton Coal with nine years service. He was retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation with 32 years service from the maintenance department and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union, Local # 5668. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and a long time member of the West Virginia Bowhunters Association and was named the WVBA Bowhunter of the Year in 1999.  He was also a member of the Husky Musky Club. Jack was a loving father and grandfather.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Ida June (Adams) Whitney, son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Karla Whitney of Cottageville, daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Mike Parrish of Cottageville, grandchildren, Whit (Christin) Parrish, Tiffany (Matt) Huffman, Karlie (Jimmy) Templin, Kylie (Max) Knapp, Jack Preston Whitney, Kassie Whitney, Kacie Whitney and five great-grandchildren, and brother James Whitney, of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Service will be 7 p.m., Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV, with Rev. Gerald B. Sayre officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
