  • Alvin Thomas “Tom” Pifer, 84, of the Murraysville community, Ravenswood, WV, went to be with the Lord, December 3, 2013.
    He was born June 28, 1929, in Murraysville, a son of the late Walter Delmer and Clarabelle (Burdette) Pifer. His brother, Walter E. Pifer, also preceded him in death.
    He was a retired farmer and mill operator’s assistant from Ravenswood Aluminum, and was a former employee of the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union, Local #5668, a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, and he enjoyed trout fishing.
    Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Mildred E. (DeLaney) Pifer; sons, Alvin T. Pifer, II, and Oliver C. and his wife, Mika Pifer all of Murraysville; daughter and her husband, Cathy M. and Steven Bigley of Ravenswood; grandchildren, William Pifer, Jennifer (Chris) Snell, Whitney Pifer, Nathan (Sara) Bigley, and Melissa Bigley; great grandchildren, Makayla, Natalie, and Dylan; nieces and nephews, Connie Wahl, Gary Pifer, Lawrence Pifer, and Mike Pifer.
    Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2013, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Ravenswood, WV, with Pastor Dee Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow in Ravenswood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service.
