David Alan Hood, 57 of Ravenswood, went home to be with the Lord on November 30, 2013 at Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, WV, after a very courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease). He was born July 10, 1956, Portsmouth, Ohio, the son of Alford Hood, and Colleen Hall Hood. He was an Operator with American Electric Power.
He was a member of the Independent Fellowship Church in Ravenswood where he taught adult Sunday School for many years. He was a freshman basketball coach at Ravenswood; former high school baseball assistant coach; president of athletic boosters; and director of midget league basketball for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bike riding, golfing, and loved spending time with his family and watching grandchildren participate in sports.
He is survived by his spouse of 38 years: Patty Hood, of the home; daughter: Kelly Corley and spouse Greg; son: David Hood and spouse Katy. Mother: Colleen Hood; two sisters: Kathy Greenleaf and spouse Ronnie, and Paula Walker.
Six grandchildren: Luke, Paige, Chase, Abby, David III, and Connor. Several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Randy Hood; and brother-in-law, David Walker.
Services will be Wednesday, December 4, 2013, 1:00 pm at Independent Fellowship Church, Ravenswood, WV. Minister(s): Pastor John Hensley, assisted by Pastor Alan Stewart, officiating.
Burial will follow in Ravenswood Cemetery, Ravenswood, WV
Visitation: Friends may visit the family at Roush Funeral Home, Ravenswood, on (today) Tuesday, December 3, from 2:00 to 8:00 pm, and one hour prior to service at the church on Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, or Dave Hood Scholarship Fund, Dave Hood Foundation, 302 Bedford Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164.
