  • ELLENBORO – The Ravenswood Red Devilettes’ 2013 postseason volleyball run came to a stop at Ritchie County High School Saturday afternoon with a regional semifinal loss to two-time defending AA state champion Oak Glen, 25-12, 25-12, 25-15.
The Golden Bears (36-5) then disposed of regional runners-up (and thus state tournament qualifier) Ritchie County, 25-16, 25-15, 25-14, to claim the regional crown and a state tournament chance for a three-peat.
Ravenswood (23-22) was competitive early in each of the three semifinal games, but could not put spike chances away or contend with Oak Glen’s power hitters who consistently hit blistering angle shots.
Katie Buckbee led Coach Gary Braham’s Devilettes with 15 points. Natalie Francis added six, Michaela Hughes and Lauren Hoff five each, Bayli Manns four and Jordan Strickland one.
Francis was the top server at 12/12 (one ace). Buckbee served a pair aces and Hughes one.
Tia Querrey was 65/69 in setting. Buckbee led in passing (29/34) and spiking (26/28-11 kills). Hughs and Hoff added three kills each, Manns two and Francis one.
Manns had six blocks and Hoff five.
For the Golden Bears, senior Morgan Poling had 26 points,  12 kills and six blocks. Senior Vanessa Hissam had 17 kills and senior Carissa Williams had 26 assists.
The regional semifinal match marked the end of high school volleyball careers for senior Devilettes Katie Buckbee, Natalie Francis, Michaela Hughes and Tia Querrey.
