W.J. “Bill” Clendenin, of Evans, WV, died October 23, 2013, following an extended illness.
He was born March 7, 1924, in Peytona, WV, to the late S.G.H. and Anna (Halstead) Clendenin. His wife Emogene, brothers, Barb, Green, S.G.H., Jr., and sisters, Vinnie Meadows, Georgie Jackson, Fern Gobble, and Nathalie Javins, also preceded him in death.
He attended Sherman High School, then, joined the United States Navy in 1943.
In 1946, he married Emogene Marshall. They were married 64 years before her death in 2010.
Bill worked for Armco Steel (mining division) at Montcoal, WV, for 13 years, and retired from Kaiser Aluminum, Ravenswood, after 28 years of service.
He was Baptized into Christ at a young age and was a member of the West Ripley Church of Christ.
Survivors include his daughters, Karen (Ernie) Haynes of Sandyville, Kathy Shepherd of Ripley, and Kristy (Tracy) Sayre of Evans; grandchildren, Erine (Chestina) Haynes, Patrick (Melissa) Haynes, and Sean Haynes of Sandyville, Aaron (Leslie) Haynes of Ripley, Jennifer (Stephen) Gannon of Middletown, MD, Jason (Stephanie) Shepherd, Chelsea Fisher, Christopher Fisher, and Tyler Fisher all of Goldtown; great grandchildren, Bethany (Michael) Manley of Ocala, FL, Alivia Null, Gabriel and Jillian Haynes of Ripley, Victoria and Madison Haynes of Sandyville, Anne Marie, Caroline, and Thomas Gannon of Middletown, MD, and Whitley Shepherd of Morgantown; great great grandson, Marshall Null of Ripley; step grandchildren, Tyler Sayre, Ali Persaud, Courtney Sayre.
His body has been donated the West Virginia University School of Medicine.
Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013, at the West Ripley Church of Christ with Minister Ernie Haynes officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the time of service.
