  • Viking boys capture regional cross country title

  • RIPLEY – Running on their home course at Cedar Lakes, the Ripley Viking cross country team garnered the Class AAA Region 3 title last Thursday.
    The Vikings had a team total of 44 points and with the win will now be among the teams competing at this coming Saturday’s West Virginia State High School State Cross Country Meet in Ona on the Chris Parsons Course at Cabell Midland High School.
    Ripley had three top 10 finishers in Antonio Jones, Remy Boyce and Levi Phillips while Jake Casto just missed by placing 11th.
    Jones, a junior, covered the course in a time of 17:57.9 to place fourth. Boyce, a freshman, turned in a time of 18:02.6 to garner sixth place. Phillips, a sophomore, was clocked at 18:21.6 in finishing ninth. Casto’s time was 18:24.
    Freshman Dalton Fisher placed 15th with a time of 18:50.3. Sophomore Nate Miller was 26th (19:50.8) and sophomore Skye Stover was 32nd (20:19.2).
    GW placed second as a team behind Ripley with 62 points. GW’s Matthew Brafford was the individual winner in a time of 16:22.6.
    In the girls portion of the meet, Ripley was third overall with 72 points. Capital was first with 45 while GW was second with 57.
    Senior Haley Ford turned in a top 10 performance by placing sixth overall with a time of 22:20.8. Senior Molli Cunningham just missed the top 10 by placing 11th overall with a time of 22:58.1.
    Junior Kyndrah Hill was 15th (23:28.9), sophomore Sapphire Parsons was 20th (24:14.6), senior Amy Ferrell was 25th (25:05.7), freshman Laurel Miller was 26th (25:27.9) and sophomore BrYana Sterns was 35th (26:35.8).
