SPENCER – The rain came and made a mud hole out of the playing surface at Spencer Middle School but it didn’t stop the Vikings as they steamrolled Spencer 40-12 on Thursday.

The Vikings got the scoring started when Rocky Ford carried three times for 51 yards in Ripley’s opening series. Braiden Campbell took the ball in on a quarterback keeper from the one yard line and Jacob Casto split the uprights on the extra point and the Vikings led 7-0.

The Ford and Campbell connection worked again as Ford returned a punt 26 yards and then ran 18 yards from scrimmage to set up another Campbell score. The quarterback scrambled for a 16 yard touchdown and Casto again nailed the point after as Ripley led 14-0.

Campbell did it on defense too as he picked off a Spencer pass and then put his offense in position to score with a touchdown strike to Tatum Stout and Ripley led, 20-0.

Ford scored from 15 yards out to put Ripley Middle up 27-0 after the Casto point after. The rain began to become a factor in the second period as both teams struggled to put a drive together until Campbell puched the ball in from the five yard line after a 59 yard Viking drive.

Spencer got their 12 points in the third, highlighted by a 48-yard fumble return for a score.

Ripley slammed the door shut when Cyress Casto hit Jacob Carte on a 25 yard laser for a Viking touchdown. Jacob Casto hit the point after to close out scoring for the contest.

The Vikings travel to Winfield Thursday. The defensive minded Middle School Generals beat Hurricane last week, 14-8.
