MEDINA - A soldier is dead following a one-vehicle rollover accident on I-77 between the Silverton and Medina interchanges early Wednesday morning.

Chief Deputy Herb Faber confirmed that the fatal crash occurred around 3:30 a.m Wednesday and the northbound lanes of the interstate were shut down while the wreckage was cleared and investigators worked the scene.
Faber said the driver of a soft top Jeep involved in the crash was with the military. The northbound vehicle ran off the roadway into the median and rolled. The driver was dead the scene.

I-77’s northbound lanes were re-opened to traffic about two hours after the mishap.
The name of the victim in the crash was not being released at press time until military officials are able to contact the family, Faber said. Deputy Mike Strobbe investigated.
