  • HAMLIN - Senior Bess McNabb took a long ball served from the Lady Red Devils defensive third of the field and scored the game winning goal with just 40 seconds left in regulation to lift Ravenswood to a season-opening 3-2 win at Lincoln County Saturday. It was McNabb’s second goal of the game.
The injury-delayed start of the season of Coach Debbie Scritchfield’s gals opened with a goal scored by junior Kayla Scritchfield off an assist pass from freshman Chesney Hudson in the 20th minute for a 1-0 Ravenswood lead.
McNabb scored her first goal of the game in the 25th minute off another assist by Chesney Hudson to put the lady Devils ahead 2-0.
Lincoln County sliced that lead in half with a goal in the 36th minute by Lynndsy Baker after an initial save by Lady Devil goalkeeper Kendra Vaughn.
The Lady Panthers knotted the game at 2-2 in the 41st minute on a goal by Kristen Long.
From there on, the Lady Devils settled down and played good defense. They also had seveal scoring chances that narrowly missed the mark.
As time wound down and a tie looked eminent, freshman Haylie Reynolds drove the long ball from the Ravenswood defensive third to McNabb and the senior buried the shot into the net with just 40 seconds left for the 3-2 win.
Ravenswood played with just 11 players with one restricted to just 20 minutes per half.
That put the Lady Devils at just 10 players on the field for half of the game versus Lincoln County’s 21-player roster.
However, the Lady Devils were determined and played hard. The coaches were proud of their effort and for leaving it all on the field.
