  • Two die, one critical after Route 56 crash

  • SILVERTON - Two individuals are dead and another critical following a single-vehicle crash off off Route 56 near Greenhills Country Club Tuesday night.
    Pronounced dead at the scene was John Littell, 59, of Gandeeville, a passenger in a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, driven by Brian Hunt, 47, of Sandyville.
    Hunt is listed in critical condition after being airlifted to Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg, according to Sgt. J.P. Murphy of the West Virginia State Police detachment at Ripley.
    Another passenger in the truck, Wanda Simmons, 54, of Leroy, died of her injuries Wednesday morning after being airlifted to CAMC General Tueday night.
    The crash occurred ar around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.
    Investigator Trooper W.F. Donohoe III of the WVSP Ripley detachment believes Hunt ran off the roadway and over compensated, causing the truck to skid back across the roadway and slam its passenger’s side into a tree. None of the occupants were believed to be wearing seat belts.
    Deputy M.D. Strobbe of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department assisted Donohoe at the scene.
