  • Trevor Tucker and Brendan Schwendeman put on a show Friday night at Death Valley Memorial Stadium, before the Parkersburg South Patriots finally prevailed 47-35 in the football season opener for both teams. For the Ripley Vikings of first year coach Dave Tennant, Tucker ran for 249 yards and passed for 127, scoring on a four-yard run and connecting with Kade Harrison for TD passes of one and 29 yards. Brother Nathan Tucker added two touchdown runs of his own. But it was a career night for Schwendeman that was the Viking's undoing and spoiled the opener for Tennant as Ripley head coach. Schwendeman rampaged for 410 yards on just 18 carried in the game, scoring TDs on runs of 64, 43, 81,65 and 54 yards. Ripley actually led 18-7 at the half, before the Schwendeman-Tucker second half fireworks commenced. Viking place-kicker Easton Berry tied the game at 21-21 with a 22-yard field goal with 4:04 left in the third quarter before the Patriots grabbed the momentum for good.
