  • Irene “Rene” Vorbach, 88, of Ripley, WV, passed away August 10, 2013, at her home while surrounded by her family.
    She was born January 28, 1925 in Morgantown, WV, a daughter of the late William Chester and Goldie Wanda (Maust) Reed. Her brothers, Chester Reed, and Ernest P. Reed, sister, Mary Frances, and two infant sisters also preceded her in death.
    She was a former employee of the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, but spent most of her life in service to others. She was a humanitarian and was always there to assist friends and neighbors in times of distress. She was a Christian.
    For many years she served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association in Jackson County and was actively involved with Special Olympics. She was a lifelong Democrat, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed gardening, and working in the hay field with her husband.
    Survivors include her husband of 67 years, William A. Vorbach, Jr.; son, Yogi Vorbach of Ripley; daughter, Brenda Kay Vorbach of Ripley, and a sister, Opal Myers of Morgantown, WV.
    Service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
