RIPLEY - The Jackson County Board of Education met last Thursday as the August 1 agenda was presented by Superintendent Blaine Hess. While Westest performance for the county was the dominant topic of interest, the board also discussed teaching vacancies around the county.
With teachers reporting on August 12 and students arriving August 15, the desire to fill the positions is a priority. There are eight teaching positions open with five being full time three listed as part-time. Openings include positions at Henry J. Kaiser Elementary, Fairplain Elementary. In other happenings, it was reported that the new bleachers at Flinn Field (Ravenswood High) were on schedule to be installed and that the new seating could arrive as early as this week, which is ahead of the projected schedule.
The Jackson County BOE was to hold a special meeting on Saturday Aug 3 in Vienna to meet with other county boards of education to discuss county level functions and services that may be shared.
