  • Raleigh Shinn Rogers 87 of Ripley passed away on July 24, 2013 at his home.
    He was born January 23, 1926 at Ripley a son of the late David Jacob Rogers and Belle Shinn Rogers. He was a 1943 graduate of Mill Creek High School. After High School he served in the Navy during World War II. Raleigh earned a degree from Virginia Tech in 1950 and was managing partner of O.J. Morrison Department Store for over 40 years.
    He served as a member of the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Ripley later becoming United National Bank, now known as United Bank.
    He was an avid golfer and founding member of the Greenhills Country Club. Raleigh was a member of the Ripley Rotary Club and an active member of the Calvary United Methodist Church.
    He was preceded in death by brothers Bernard Rogers of Dunbar, Robert (Bob) Rogers of Charleston, sister Eleanor Hugelmeyer of Wilmington, DE and grandson Matthew Eckel of Houston, TX.
    He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia L. Rogers ; children J.D. Rogers and his wife Kathy of Charleston, WV, Rachel Eckel and her husband Skip of Newnan, GA and Robbie Rogers and his wife Missy of Ripley, WV; grandchildren Megan Eckel of Atlanta, GA and Brandon Rogers of Pittsburg, PA.
    Funeral Service were Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Calvary United Methodist Church, Ripley. Reverend Charles Hicks officiated.
    Burial was in the Fairplain Cemetery, Ripley.
    Friends called at the Calvary United Methodist Church.
