  • 2013 Fair Market Livestock Sale tops $391,000, including record goat sales

  • COTTAGEVILLE - Area businessmen, groups, politicians and individuals turned out Friday to make the 2013 Jackson County Junior Fair's Market Livestock Sale—the 43nd annual sale—one to remember with a record market goat sale ($26,610.95) and a total sale of $391,054.15. This year's sale total was up $34,060.35 above the 2012 total of $356,993.80 and marked the second straight increase. The 2011 sale totaled 314,050.10 and the 2010 sale totaled $354,023.62.
    Hog Haven, Inc. set the pace for the sale smashing the record bid for Morgan Kimble's 84-pound Grand Champion Market Goat at a whopping $43 per pound and a total sale price of $3,612.
    Jill O'Dell, Bunner Logging and Facemyer Lumber combined to purchase Eric Hall's 84-pound Reserve Champion Market Goat for $27 per pound and a total sale price of $2,268.
    The 2013 Market Goat sale was a record $26,610.95 with sales prices excluding the grand and reserve champions averaging $7.92 per pound.
    The Law Offices of Harris & Holmes purchased Jacob Kay's 605-pound Grand Champion Replacement Heifer for $6.60 per pound and a sale total price of $3,993.
    Morrison Family Trailer Sales. Matt and Christy Dye and McDonald's of Ravenswood, Spencer and Fairplain combined to purchase James Hoffman's 653-pound Reserve Champion Replacement Heifer for $6 per pound and a total sale price of $3,918.
    The 2013 Replacement Heifer sale totaled $46,101.60. Excluding the grand and reserve champions, the heifer sale prices averaged $3.61 per pound.
    Hog Haven, Inc. and Hilltop Meats combined to purchase Brianna Haga's 126-pound Grand Champion Market Lamb for $26.50 per pound and a total sale price of $3,339.
    Terra Services, Inc. purchased Braelea Skeen's 117-pound Reserve Champion Market Lamb for $17.50 per pound and a total sale price of $2,047.50.
    The 2013 Market Lamb sale totaled $59,182.75. . Excluding the grand and reserve champions, the lamb sale prices averaged $3.61 per pound.
    R&L Preowned Auto Sales I(Ronnie & Rick Cooper) purchased Jared Casto's Grand Champion Market Rabbits for a whopping $5,000.
    Shiloh Resources purchased Cheyenne Thomas's Reserve Champion Market Rabbits for $850.
    The 2013 Market Rabbit sale totaled $10,365 Excluding the grand and reserve champions, the rabbit sale prices averaged $410.45 per pen.
    Century 21, Martin Yoder, Jackson County Livestock Market, Cooper Auction Service, City Ice & Fuel and Meadowview Mobile Home Park combined to purchase Drew Harpold's 1,315-pound Grand Champion Market Steer for $5 per pound and a total sale price of $6,575.
    Terra Services, Inc. purchased Makynzee Longfellow's 1.194-pound Reserve Champion Market Steer for $3.75 per pound and a total sale price of $4,477.50.
    The 2013 Market Steer sale totaled $76,386.05 Excluding the grand and reserve champions, the steer sale prices averaged $3.91 per pound.
    Hilltop Meats and Hog Haven, Inc. combined to purchase Luke Jackson's 275-pound Grand Champion Market Hog for $14.50 per pound and a total sale price of $3,987.50.
    Terra Services, Inc. purchased Kaitlyn Holbert's 270-pound Reserve Champion Market Hog for $11 per pound and a total sale price of $2,970.
