MARIETTA - It was a great run. They boys played hard and nearly brought home the hardware. It wasn’t to be on Sunday night as the Ripley 17U baseball team came up just a little short in the championship game as Fort Frye (OH) defeated the Vikings 6-2 on a muggy Sunday evening.
The Viking bats were stymied by the Cadets’ strong stable of arms, as a solid effort from three Ripley hurlers wasn’t enough to carry the Vikings to victory in the Mid Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
Ripley defeated Tyler County and Parkersburg last week as they staked claim on a chance to compete for a conference title.
Easton Berry hurled five innings and his southpaw counterpart Logan McCoy slung the sixth. Isaac Koontz threw the seventh and was saddled with the loss.
The Vikings stand at (13-5) overall and are (9-5) in the conference.
