RIPLEY – Quality pitching, stellar defense and hot bats were the winning combination on Wednesday night as the Ripley 17U baseball team took down Tyler County, 12-3 in a game that was never really in question for the Vikings.

Ripley entered the contest as the number four seed and Tyler was the number five.

Ripley (13-4) received quality innings on the hill from starter Nathan Tucker and in later innings, Luke Layhew.
Highlights of the game included a two run double from Cody Pittenger that careened off of the warning track in centerfield at Viking Park.Trevor Tucker was involved in two key plays. He led off the game with a hit and advanced to third on defensive errors on Tyler County. He scored on a passed ball later in the inning.

Tucker also gunned down a base runner at the plate with a one hopper to frosh catcher Anthony Jarvis who applied the tag and held on to the ball during the collision at the dish.

The Viking plated six runs in the fifth inning and cruised to victory to advance in the Mid Ohio Valley League tournament. Ripley is (9-3) in League standings.

Ripley traveled to Marietta on Thursday night and took on Parkersburg. The Vikings prevailed 11-7.
