Fire department, EMS personnel, West Virginia State Police troopers and a Jackson County Deputy Sheriff are in the process of recovering the body of a man found in a partially submerged, wrecked pickup truck in Sand Creek.
The name of the victim has not been released.
It appeared the pickup was traveling south on I-77 and ran off the roadway into the median, traveling over 300 feet before going airborne between the southbound and northbound bridges over the creek at the Silverton interchange. The truck apparently hit the north creek bank some 60 yards below the interstate and then bounced into the creek.
A passerby discovered the wreck sunk nearly up to the windows at around noon Tuesday and called 911.
Responding emergency personnel discovered the body inside the cab of the demolished truck.
The investigation is continuing.
