  • Four Lady Viking sluggers earn Class AAA All-State recognition

  • RIPLEY - Ripley High School had four softball players recognized by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association as the Class AAA squad was released last week.
    Earning First Team honors was junior pitcher Chelsey Hager. Hager ended her season with a "sub one" earned run average on the hill while batting (.378) for the blue and white. She struck out 22 batters in a sectional victory over South Charleston.
    Senior centerfielder Ali Cunningham took Special Honorable Mention honors while batting (.303) and playing stellar defense.
    Junior Meghan Brannon hit (.530) in an injury-shortened season and junior Dusti Fisher hit (.385) for Ripley. Both players earned an Honorable Mention selection.
    "I am very pleased that our girls were recognized as some of the best players in West Virginia. This is a tremendous honor for them to be selected," said Ripley Coach Ken Swisher.
    Ripley (24-12) made an appearance in the Class AAA State Tournament falling to Jefferson and Wheeling Park.
