RIPLEY - With spring sports winding down, local hoops camps will be taking place as we enter the summer. Ripley girls basketball coach Justin Frashier has announced the dates for the second annual Road to CCC (Charleston Civic Center) Girls Basketball Camp.

The camp will run from June 6 through June 8 with Championship Saturday being the highlight for campers. Prizes will be awarded for selected achievements. The camp is available to all girls entering grades 3 through 8.

This year's camp schedule is as follows: June 6 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, June 7 from 8:30 a.m. to noon and June 8 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Frashier will be assisted by Jon Melhorn, Kevin McClung and members of the Ripley girls basketball squad. Ripley's All State post player Sarah Williams will also be on hand to work with campers.

A surprise guest speaker will address the campers and answer questions. The camp had over three dozen participants last summer.

Last year's speaker was Glenville State men's coach Stephen Dye. The Pioneer skipper made an appearance to speak the girls about what it takes to be successful in basketball and in life.

Dye was an All American at Alderson Broaddus while setting the NCAA record for career 3-point goals made (444).
"We are excited to kick our camp off once again. We had a nice turnout last year and we look forward to working with the girls again. We have lined up a guest speaker for this year who knows quite a bit about the State Tournament and what it takes to get there," said Coach Frashier.

Frashier actually suffered a fractured heel during last year's camp set up and was on crutches by the end of the week. Frashier was still present for the whole camp and continued to teach and coach.
