  • EASTWOOD – A day after staging a dramatic upset of Class AA No. 10 Roane County in sectional tournament play, Ravenswood’s Red Devilettes suffered a nightmare bottom of the seven inning after leading 9-2 to lose 10-9 to the same Lady Raiders in the tournament elimination game, and saw their season come to an abrupt, stunning end.
Coach Cindy Carmichael’s gals grabbed a 4-1 lead with four runs in the top of the second inning. Sidnee Morgan got the explosion started with a two-run double to center field scoring Jordan Strickland and Lexi Price. Katie Buckbee belted a two-run single to score Savana Casto and Morgan.
The Devilettes added three more runs in the top of the third for a commanding 7-1 advantage. Ciara Trouille and Heather Randolph laced back-to-back singles and Dez Lester’s fielder’s choice scored Trouille. Strickland’s fielder’s choice scored Randolph and Casto’s sacrifice fly drove in Lester.
Leading 7-2 in the top of the fifth, Casto blasted a solo homer which caromed off the left field fence foul pole and Ravenswood added a single run in the top of the sixth for a 9-2 advantage.
But Roane rallied in the bottom of the seventh, as walks, errors and fielding miscues helped create a surge for the Raiders. After Ravenswood allowed three runs for a 9-5 margin, senior Holly Chiles recorded the second out unassisted on a grounder. But it didn’t stem the tide. Roane added another run to close to 9-6 and then the next batter ripped a shot over Lexi Price in right field to score two more runs. The batter continued to circle the bases and collided at third with Jordan Strickland, as the relay throw was coming in. The ball squirted free and the runner scored the stunning winning run, 10-9, on the play. Strickland suffered a knee injury in the collision at third base.
Casey Lassiter got the pitching win, fanning three walking three and allowing 16 hits. Savan Casto was the hard luck loser, fanning six, walking five and allowing nine hits.
At the plate for the Devilettes, Sidnee Morgan (two RBIs) led the way with a double and two singles; Savana Casto (two RBIs), a homer and two singles; Heather Randolph, three singles; Katie Buckbee and Lexi Price added two singles and two RBIs each; Ciara Trouille and Jordan Strickland, two singles each; and Dez Lester, a single.
