  • Ravenswood Tennis splits with Ritchie County

  • RAVENSWOOD – Ravenswood Tennis split a dula match with visiting Ritchie County last week witht eh boys' nipping the Rebels 4-3 and the girls' being edged 4-3.
    In boys' singles play, Ethan Cross beat Noah Laugh, 8-1; Sean Matics lost 8-2 to Zach Bishop 8-2; Michael Danishanko nipped Hunter Bishop 9-8 (7-3); and Logna Tucker lost to Kyle Knuston 9-7.
    In doubles, Cross/Matics beat Laugh/Bishop 8-6; Bishop/Knuston edged Danishanko/Elias McKown 8-6; and Tucker/Kurt Tennant beat Gavin Vincent/Kevin Cantrell 8-2.
    On the girls' side, Alex McNabb lost to Veronica Mueller 8-2; Taylor Youell beat Olivia Haught 8-0; Jessie West beat Bess McNabb 8-1; and Kerigan Crow beat Tiffany Gilmore 8-0.
    In doubles, Mueller/Haught edged McNabb/Youell 8-6; West/Olivia Goff beat Crow/Jordan Sheets 8-3; and Jordan Danko/Jordan Matics beat Jaccie Haught/Mikayla Hayes 8-1.
    "Every match was a nail-biter," said Coach Butch Varney. "These matches proved to our players how much they have improved. We lost to Ritchie a couple of weeks ago by identical 5-2 scores. Tonight, we avenged the boys' loss and the girls' match came down to our No. 1 Doubles in a heck of a match. Coach (Jim) Frazier and UI are so proud of these kids and how much they have improved."
    Ravenswood opens regional tournament play next Thursday afternoon at Parkersburg South's Erickson Complex.
