  • Lady Vikes take two from South, face Riverside on Wednesday in sectional

  • RIPLEY – As Coach Ken Swisher's Ripley High softball team moves into Region 3 Section 4 sectional play on Wednesday, the squad had to take care of some regular season business on Saturday at Lady Viking Park.
    A double header with Parkersburg South that was rescheduled due to rainy weather early in the season was on the plate for the Lady Vikings (19-8). The team responded with a convincing sweep of the Lady Patriots.
    Pitching was the name of the game for Ripley on this day. Chelsey Hager and Darby Petersen were the suspects in question doing the damage.
    In game one, Hager took the hill and showed the consistency in this game that she has flashed all season as Ripley rolled to a 5-1 victory. She also swung a potent stick driving in a run, scoring two and stealing a base for her team.
    Hager hurled a complete game, giving up one run (zero earned) on three hits and striking out an amazing 13 Lady Patriots.
    At the plate, Dusti Fisher went 1-for-3, Myranda Murphy scored a run, Chelsey Hager went 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base, Sierra Norris scored a run, Darby Petersen 1-for-3 with a stolen base, Hannah Ford went 1-for-3 with a stolen base, Montana Kershner was 1-for-3 and scored a run and Kelsey Moore had a stolen base.
    In game two it was much of the same for Ripley as frosh stand-out Darby Petersen took the ball for Coach Swisher.
    Petersen threw a complete game, giving up one run (zero earned) while issuing no walks and string out six on five hits.
    Sophomore catcher Ashley Mellinger swung the hot bat as she mashed a double and plated three RBIs for the Blue Crew.
    Ali Cunningham went 2-for-4 with an RBI,a run and a stolen base, Sierra Norris scored a run, Myranda Murphy went 1-for-3, Chelsey Hager was 2-for-4 with a run and a stolen base, Sapphire Parsons scored a run and swiped a base, Ashley Mellinger went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Reiley Simpkins scored a run, Kelsey Moore went 1-for-4, Darby Petersen went 1-for-3 and Hannah Ford scored a run.
    Ripley travels to Riverside on Wednesday in Region 3 section 4 action.
