  • Crews homer leads Devils over Catholic

  • RAVENSWOOD - The Devils beat visiting Parkersburg Catholic last week, 8-4, behind Devon Crews' power hitting.
    Crews went 3-for-4 with a homer, double and three RBIs to key the Swainmen. Logan Jarrett was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
    Isaac Crow got the pitching win, fanning five, walking seven and scattering 10 hits.
    Mitch Davids took the loss for the Crusaders, fanning 12, walking one and allowing 11 hits.
    The devils spotted the Crusaders a 2-0 lead but exploded for four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The added pairs of runs in the fourth and sixth, while PC could manage only singles runs in the fourth and seventh.
    Davis helped his own cause with a 3-for-4 plate effort including a triple. Austin Luther and Cary Casto were 2-for-4 each.
    The Devils also dropped a hard-fought, eight-inning 9-8 decision at George Washington, battling back from a 6-1 deficit to lead 8-6 before the Patriots scored three unanswered runs to win.
    Jesse Brown took the pitching loss in relief of starter Isaac Crow. Brown tossed six innings in relief, fanning nine, walking one and scattering six hits. Crow tossed the opening two innings, fanning none, walking four and allowing four hits.
    Ethan Hartney got the pitching win in relief for the Patriots, tossing three innings with three strikeouts, two walks and one hit allowed. Jon Mounts was the starter, going five innings with four strikeouts, four walks and six hits allowed.
    Thomas Sturm led the Devils at the plate with two hits in three trips and three RBIs. Nic Ballard was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
    Garrett Vogelbach paced the Patriots with a 3-for-4 plate performance including a triple and double.
    "We played well as a tem and they all showed how well they have come together," said Coach Swain. "These guys have worked hard and are doing things now that help each other out."
