  • Sports Brief: Lady Vikings knock off No. 2 Hurricane, 4-2

  • RIPLEY - The Lady Vikings softball team (13-4, MSAC 8-1) stretched their muscles tonight and showed just what they are made of against the No. 2 ranked Hurricane High lady Redskins who sit at the top of the Mountain State Athletic Conference.
    With a runner on in the 5th nd the game knotted at two, Madisyn Hinzman blasted a double down the first base line and picked up the RBI to put her team up for good. She took third on an error when the ball was kicked around in the deep corner. The talented frosh also made two sensation grabs in the outfield.
    Sapphire Parson made several fine plays in the field from second base.
    Chelsey Hager and Hannah Ford had RBI hits in the game. Hager hurled a complete game and shut the door on the Lady Redskins.
    "I just can't say enough about my team tonight," said coach Ken Swisher. "We played hard and we played smart. Madisyn Hinzman is one of many who stepped up for us once again. This is a good win for us."
    The No. 9 ranked Lady Viking travel to Moorefield for a tournament on Friday and Saturday. The ladies play Martinsburg at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and then take on Petersburg at 6:15 p.m.
    On Saturday they will face Moorfield at 8 a.m. and will play at least twice more after pool play.
