  • Glenda Kay Vannest, 71, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away April 16, 2013, at Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston.
She was born July 27, 1941, in Huntington, WV, a daughter of the late Glen and Ruby (Boggs) Roberts. Her sister, Lavonne Cobb; brother, Keith Roberts; nephews, Brit Cobb and Randy Vannest, and a niece, Ruby Lavonne Roberts, also preceded her in death.
Kay grew up in Boggs, Webster County, along her beloved Birch River. She graduated from Cowan High School, and Business College in Charleston. Kay would marry Jorden “Joe” Vannest in 1961, and they settled on Pleasant View Ridge, where they built a home, raised a family and had a beautiful farm.
In midlife, Kay became a licensed practical nurse and worked many years at Jackson General Hospital. She loved her job and considered her co-workers as her second family. She loved her church, the Pleasant View United Methodist, where she had attended for 50 years. She was also a member of the Silverton Grange.
Kay was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed life and will be missed by many. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed anything that involved spending time with them. The family reunions were always an occasion she looked forward to. She enjoyed traveling, attending music shows and car shows, going to fairs, working puzzles, quilting, preparing family meals, and taking the grandchildren camping.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Jorden K. “Joe” Vannest; daughter, Crystal Danko and her husband, Albert of Ravenswood; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Melody Vannest of Ravenswood; granddaughter, Jordan Danko, and grandsons, James Vannest and Zachary Vannest, all of Ravenswood; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayland and Cecile Roberts of Valley Center, CA, and Skipper and Mitzi Roberts of Boggs, WV, and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Pleasant View United Methodist Church, Ravenswood, WV, with Pastor Ted Osgood officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2013, at Casto Funeral Home, Ravenswood.
