EASTWOOD – Ravenswood's Red Devilettes had an answer for visiting Ritchie County's four-run outburst in the first inning with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom half-inning, but the Rebels (12-1) then rode a two-run homer by winning pitcher freshman Kenna Delancey in the second and a Devilette defensive meltdown in the third to a quick 12-2 win Tuesday at Eastwood.
Rebel leadoff hitter Vanessa Tallman got things started with a standup triple down the left field line and Ritchie added an RBI double by catcher Abby Burgess and a RBI single from Becca Sullivan to plate four runs off Devilette ace sophomore Savana Casto in the top of the first inning.
But Ravenswood answered quickly as Casto drew and leadoff walk in the bottom of the first and race to third on a double to deep center by catcher Sidnee Morgan. Both Casto and Morgan scored on Holly Chiles' two-run line single to center.
Coach Dave Mossor's crew added a pair in the second when Delancey made a walk hurt with two-run homer to over the right center field fence for a 6-2 lead.
The Rebels then put the hammer down as errors and walks spiraled the game out of control with six third-inning runs for Ritchie County for the mercy rule ending.
Devilette Katie Buckbee reached second base in the bottom of the third inning after a walk and a passed ball to account for the Devilette' only scoring threat after the first inning.
Delancey got the pitching win, fanning six, walking two and allowing just two Devilette hits over the three innings.
Casto took the loss, fanning six, walking four and scattering nine Rebel hits. Ravenswood committed 10 errors to help fuel the Rebel rout.
