  • RAVENSWOOD – Cindy Carmichael is hopeful her Ravenswood High Devilette softball team can keep the momentum from spring break alive in the coming days, beginning, in fact, today (Tuesday) with a home showdown against perennial power Ritchie County.
The Devilettes crushed Parkersburg Catholic in two games last week while also earning a hard-fought one-run victory over Williamstown.
"Our hitting came on strong," said Carmichael of last week's trio of wins. "We were patient at the plate."
Last Tuesday at Ravenswood, the Devilettes defeated Catholic, 14-3, in a makeup game. Savanna Casto led the hit parade for the Devilettes with not one, but two grand slams. Her eight runs batted in helped the Devilettes cruise to the win in a game lasting just two and a half innings due to the mercy rule.
Katie Buckbee was a perfect 3-3 at the plate with a double and triple. Sidnee Morgan and Holly Chiles each added a hit for Ravenswood. Chiles was credited with an RBI as was Dizarae Lester.
Casto earned the win on the hill, allowing two hits and striking five.
Following the win over PC, Ravenswood hosted Williamstown later in the day and pulled out a 12-11 victory in the bottom of the seventh. Williamstown had evened the contest at 11-all by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh. In the home half of the seventh, Casto knocked in Lester for the game-winning run.
Ravenswood banged out 19 hits in the victory. Casto and Buckbee each had home runs in the win. Casto was a perfect 4-4. Besides the homer, she laced a double and drove home three runs. Buckbee was 3-4 in the contest. Besides her home run, she blasted a triple and drove home two.
Chiles, Lester and Jordan Strickland also had three hits in the win. Morgan, Alexis Price, Ciara Trouilee added one hit each.
Casto garnered the mound win. She struck out five and walked four while allowing 10 hits.
On Wednesday, Ravenswood visited Catholic and scored 10 runs in the top of the first and again won in three innings, 18-2.
The Devilettes had just four hits in the game, but took advantage of several walks for the landslide win.
Morgan was 2-2 with a double and three RBI. Buckbee had a hit and drove in two. Trouille's double brought home a run. Chiles was responsible for bringing home two runs thanks to walks as was Heather Randolph. Casto and Lester each knocked in a run.
Lester pitched two innings with one strike out, while Casto had two strike outs in one inning of work.
Besides the showdown with Ritchie this week, the Devilettes are slated to host Roane County on Friday. At press time, the Lady Raiders were a perfect 10-0 on the season, including a 9-5 victory over the Devilettes on March 29.
