  • RIPLEY – Meat Loaf's hit song entitled "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad" climbed to number 11 on the Billboard charts back in 1978.
When discussing relay teams for track and field, having three out of four returning certainly "ain't bad." Jimmy Frashier hopes a triumvirate of hurdlers from last season's shuttle team will have Ripley moving up the charts when the State Meet rolls around in May.
Juniors Molli Cunningham and Erica Gibson along with sophomore Holly Farkosh helped make up last season's unit that finished 14th (the top six score team points) at the West Virginia High School State Meet in Charleston. Gone is Erin Thompson, who graduated.
"We feel like Amanda Longanacre, a freshman, will move into Erin's spot," Frashier said. "We feel like the shuttle team is a bright spot for us."
Frashier is entering his second season in charge of Lady Viking track and field.
Besides the shuttle team, Frashier feels Cunningham and Farkosh will be strong in the two open (100 and 300) hurdle events.
In addition to hurdles, Cunningham was also impressive last season in the pole vault. Freshman Maddi Randolph is someone who could also prove to be strong in that event this season according to Frashier.
In the sprints, Frashier is looking forward to watching the progress of Caressa Robinson and freshman Audra Thomas. Frashier said Thomas "could be something special" as her Lady Viking track and field days move forward.
The distance portion for the Lady Vikings will get a boost when senior Ali Cunningham competes. Cunningham, a multi-sport athlete who excels in softball, plans to take part in several meets during the 2013 season.
"She's got it worked out," Frashier said of Cunningham's mission to be involved in both sports this spring. Cunningham is an outstanding outfielder for the Lady Viking program.
Cunningham has been the top runner in cross country the past two seasons for Ripley and was a State Meet qualifier last fall, placing 25th in Class AAA.
"We're thrilled to have her," Frashier said.
The Ripley roster also includes junior Kensey Bergdorf (shot put and discus), freshman Sophia Brown (sprints), sophomore Taylor Dale (distance), sophomore Jade Donohew (shot and discus), junior Kelsey Frampton (distance), freshman Kelsey Holmes (distance), sophomore Makayla Kyte (distance), freshman Emily Oldham (sprints), freshman Caylee Painter (sprints, high jump and long jump), freshman Adrianna Parsons (shot put and discus), sophomore Morgan Pierson (hurdles, high jump and long jump), sophomore Madison Sanders (sprints and middle distance), freshman Krissa Scarberry (hurdles), sophomore Julia Scuggs (shot put and discus), freshman Cassidy Tolley (hurdles and sprints) and freshman Cheyenne Wright (sprints).
