RAVENSWOOD - Five Ravenswood High School basketball players garnered Class AA All-State honors on the recently released postseason honor quads.

Red Devil junior Jake Martin was named to the West Virginia Class AA All-State Boys’ Basketball Honorable Mention List.
Martin, who topped the Devils’ attack with 20.1 points per game, was also an All-LKC First Team selection.

Seniors Taylor Youell, Hannah Murray and Melonna Carmichael and sophonore Hailey Miller were named to the West Virginia Class AA Girls’ All-State Honoroable Mention List.

Youell realized a dream by winning the 2013 LKC Night of Champions’ Top Gun (Three-Point Shooting) Award and was named to the All-LKC First Team.

She led her team in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per game during the regular season and draining 51 treys—also tops for the Devilettes.

An intimidating shot blocker (50), Murray, 6-1, guard/forward, averaged 8.8 points per game and 5.8 rebounds.

Carmicahel, the team’s diminutive 5-1 point guard, was another arc angel, her team’s assist leader 4.4 per game) and averaged 8.3 points per game.

Sophomore slasher Hailey Miller had a breakout season in 2013, scoring at a 14.0 points per game clip, grabbing 5.3 rebounds per game and 2.2 steals per game.

All five Ravenswood honorees could have fared better in the All-State recognition, but neither the Devils or Devilettes advance to the state tournament which with a few exceptions is almost a prerequisite these days for making one of the All-State teams.

Martin and Miller will be back to lead their respective teams in 2013-2014, while Youell, Murray and Carmichael close out outstanding high school careers.

The three Devilettes seniors played in the state tournament three of their four varsity seasons, captured four sectional and three regional crowns.
