She was mother to 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and married to the late B. Noel Poling. Later marriage to the late Ernest L. Johnson blessed her with three additional step children, seven step grandchildren, and 4 step great grandchildren. Evelyn’s life was about family, community, giving, and service.
In high school, Evelyn was Head Cheerleader, a member of the band, glee club, and chosen Miss Viking twice. Playing a major role in the family business, Poling Electric, during the 60’s, she raised 5 children, helped her husband B. Her many friends and loved ones gave her courage when she developed colon cancer in 1974. She became involved with local hospitals, the cancer society, and social work helping other ostomy patients cope with their adjustments. She later career changed to help medical offices and patients deal with burdening health insurance complexities. That time of her life became a joy to her of helping others.
Her marriage to “Lew” Johnson marked a new phase of both their lives. She was a member of the Ravenswood First Baptist Church, the Pilot Club, and they continued their involvement in various community activities. Weekly Rook partners were Charles Poling and Colleen Murray, whom they both enjoyed immensely. Families grew, grandchildren married, and great grandchildren entered her world.
