Dr. Daniel Ralph Woodman “Doc” of Marietta, Ohio passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 in Spring Hills, Florida.
Doc was born in Portland, Maine to Arthur and Charlotte Woodman, on April 20, 1942. Doc graduated from Falmouth High School in Maine in 1960 and received a BS in Microbiology/Biochemistry from the University of Maine in 1964. He continued with his education by earning a MD with a MS degree in 1966 from the University of Maryland.
Doc then proceeded with a career in the United States Navy as an officer in 1967. While commissioned, he obtained his Ph. D. in Microbiology/Biochemistry. After many dedicated years in the United States Navy, Doc received the title of Commander in 1980, and retired ten years later.
From 1990 to 2000, he was a Professor at the University of Maryland, where he found his passion for educating the minds of our youth. He then went on to teach in the public school system, starting in Hampshire County, WV and then moving on to Ravenswood, WV. In 2011, Doc retired from the WV public school system and moved to Marietta, OH. There, he taught for one year at Belpre High School and has since been substituting in the Washington County, Ohio area.
Doc was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Kathleen Lemon Woodman.
Doc is survived by his current wife, Katherine Bise Woodman and his 8 children: Tracy Coats, Christopher and Patrick Taylor, Rebecca Lewis, JR,Andrew, Matthew, and Katie Spurling. He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren: Ethan and Ellis Coats, Brennan, Harrison, and Creighton Taylor, Kealey and Aspen Lewis, and Xander and Isaac Spurling; and his sister Janice Alden.
A memorial service will be held at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood, WV on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at noon. A funeral service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
