A Young Hollow, Kenna man faces felony charges after his daughters and a friend discovered a covert surveillance camera hidden in a heat register in the residence’s bathroom.
Jerry Lee Burdette, 42, has been charged with felony sexual exploitation of a child by a parent.
According to the report of Deputies Norm Ferland and Cameron Saltsgaver of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, who investigated, a neighbor called 9-1-1 after Burdette’s daughters and a female friend went there after they discovered the spy camera pointed toward the bathroom shower in their home.
The girls made the discovery as one of the daughters, age 15, was taking a shower and her sister and friend were also in the bathroom with her. One of the girls looked up and saw the blue power light of the camera in the heat register monitor above and the girls then found the camera pointed toward the shower.
Investigators discovered that the camera was attached to a cable running into an adjacent bedroom where it was hooked up to a 13-inch TV monitor.
In subsequent questioning of Burdette, the man claimed that he had installed the camera some 10 months prior to its discovery for the purpose of home security and that the girls slamming the bathroom door had caused the camera to turn toward the shower.
Investigators seized several items of evidence from the dwelling including some 21 VHS tapes, the TV monitor, camera, cable and other items.
Burdette was arrested, charged with felony sexual exploitation of a child by a parent and arraigned. He remains lodged in the South Central Regional Jail in lieu of $150,000 bond.
