I’ve spent a lot of time writing about new breweries opening in the past few years, but today I am sad to be writing about a brewery closing.
Bull Jagger Brewing Company, a wonderful lager-only brewery from Portland Maine, announced today on its Facebook page they are closing.
People began talking about this after their equipment and brewery were put up for sale on Craigslist.
“As some of you know, the brewery is for sale,” the statement said. “Bull and Jagger are going their separate ways, and under the circumstances, we have no choice but to close the company. In the coming weeks, we will have fresh beer to package and sell. Our lagers are and will be available in Maine through our distributor, retailers, and to the public while supplies last.”
Tom Bull, the co-owner, will work with another local brewer to brew continue to brew the Big Claw Pilsner, so at least you’ll be able to get your hands on that if you’re in Maine.
Bull Jagger was not available here in Massachusetts, but when Tom Bull was on the Seacoast Beverage Lab Podcast a few months ago, he said Bull Jagger planned on expanding to Massachusetts. I was looking forward to it because the beers were quite good.
Goodbye Bull Jagger and hopefully something develops in the future for all those involved.
