Bruce Springsteen
The writers of this blog are not music critics, and they don't consider a second (or third, fourth or fifth) mortgage to be a perfectly reasonable course of action to pay for front-row tickets, but despite being a whole lot more middle aged than they were when they first put \x34Born in the U.S.A.\x34 or \x34The River\x34 down on the turntable, still feels like Bruce has something -- OK, a lot of things -- to say about our country and the way we live our lives, things that not a lot of other artists are saying. And whether he's talking about the knife that can cut this pain from your heart, the house that's waiting for you to walk in or what that flag flying over the courthouse means, he's nailing down feelings that are so universal that they can raise your spirits and break your heart at the same time. Plus, let¹s face it, the man rocks.

Amy Lofgren tweeted this photo of Nils headed off to Australia.

With our beloved E Streeters on their way to Australia, we here in the U.S. are feeling a little left behind. Not only is the airfare too expensive for most of us to do more than daydream about being there, but thanks to the magic of time zones, those of us with day jobs probably can’t even plan on watching the setlists unfold in real time. So what’s a fan to do?

Well, it’s been said (by me, five minutes ago) that a tweet is the shortest distance between two points. And increasingly, Twitter has become a great way to get quick updates and photos straight from the horse’s mouth — wait, horses don’t tweet, they neigh… metaphor fail! Anyway, several of the E Street Band members are on Twitter now, and here’s the official Blogness guide to who’s who. As far as we know, with one exception, these are actually the people they purport to be, not fake or parody accounts. And they’re worth following.

Core band members:

Bruce Springsteen – @springsteen This is the one exception; don’t expect any Bruce-composed tweets here, but it is the Twitter account of brucespringsteen.net and any information coming from it can be considered to be official.

Of course, there’s also Bruce Spingsteen (@boss1949), who says he isn’t actually a famous rock star … hmmm. He’s been quiet lately, but maybe he’ll get the urge to Tweet while Down Under.

Stevie Van Zandt – @StevieVanZandt For a good stretch of last year’s tour SVZ gave us some fun pre- and post-show shout-outs, but he hasn’t tweeted since December; we think maybe his tweeter got frostbite out there in Norway where he’s busy filming season 2 of “Lilyhammer.” We know tweeter frostbite can be painful and we hope he recovers soon. Meanwhile, you can follow his wife Maureen (@MVZaGoGo), who tweets actively about many things including music, theater, and life in NYC.

Nils Lofgren – @nilslofgren Nils has gotten much more active on Twitter recently and we hope this trend continues! He’s shared some pretty adorable photos of the family dogs along with other updates, and we’re hoping for some cool tidbits from Australia. You can also follow his wife Amy (@azsweetheart013) for more adorable dog photos and the occasional “throwback” photo of Nils (she once tweeted a shot of him at 2 years old with his dad).

Additional touring personnel:

Jake Clemons – @jakeclemons

Cindy Mizelle – @cindymizelle9

Michelle Moore – @MichelleMoore91

Tom Morello – @tmorello

Lef Carroll – @Lef_iv “Freelance Rigger, Video Utility, and Teleprompter Op,” this crew member posts some cool behind-the-scenes photos; last year he posted pre-show audience shots from the stage of each venue

Former band members and touring personnel:

Clarence Clemons – @clarenceclemons His official Twitter account, which came startlingly back to life when someone tweeted from it (“on behalf of the Big Man”) during the MusiCares gala. Some followers felt this was a nice remembrance and some felt it was creepy.

Vini MadDog Lopez – @loperdog

David Sancious – @DavidSancious

Jay Weinberg – @jayweinbergdrum

I’ve compiled all of these into a Twitter list which you can follow here: http://twitter.com/annehaines/e-tweet-band And while you’re at it, don’t forget to follow @blogness for all the Springsteen and E Street news that’s fit to tweet!
