Highway construction in Iowa has been delayed because of bats, Yahoo News reports. A female Indiana bat was found near where the highway is being constructed in West Des Moines, Iowa. Indiana bats are considered an endangered species, so officials have asked that ocnstruction be stopped until a study can be done determining if there are more bats in the area. The $31 miilion highway exchange may be delayed for four or five months, as the study can not be conducted until the bats are done hibernating in May. If more bats are discovered, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will work with developers to continue the project with minimal impact on the bats' habitat.
