Deborah Lynn Fast, 58, of Morgantown, West Virginia, died on February 17, 2013 in Exton PA, of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Born on December 19, 1954 in Charleston, West Virginia to Robert L. and Mary Lee Warner Fast, Deborah was raised in Ravenswood, West Virginia.
She was valedictorian of the Ravenswood High School class of 1973. In 1977, she earned a BA degree in journalism from West Virginia University. Deborah worked at the university for 34 years, most recently as a graphic designer.
Deborah had a lively intellectual curiosity. She was an avid reader, and particularly enjoyed mysteries.
Deborah loved dogs and she loved the natural world. During her free time, she combined these interests spending many satisfying hours walking her dog and exploring the Mon River Rail Trail System. She delighted in photographing and researching the plants she found along the trail, especially wildflowers and ferns, carefully documenting these things in a journal.
She is survived by her mother, Mary Lee Fast of Ravenswood, WV, sisters Cathy Fast Heald and her husband, Don, of Exton, PA, and Becky Fast Linton and her husband, Paul, of Lexington, MA, one niece and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 719 Flinn St. Ravenswood, WV.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Deborah’s memory to The First United Methodist Church, 719 Flinn St., Ravenswood, WV 26164, the Mon River Trails Conservancy (montrails.org), or Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia (animalfriendswv.org).
