  • Ravenswood's Red Devilettes left no doubt Friday night at the Braxton County Armory, rolling to a 58-37 win in the Class AA Region I, Section 2 championship game. Coach Cara Williams' gals led by as much as 24 points in the second half after taking a 24-13 lead to the locker room at the half. Hailey Miller and Melonna Carmichael (trey) led the way with 14 point each for the Devilettes (16-7). Hannah Murray added nine, Taylor Youell (two treys) eight, Kayla Scritchfield six, Taylor Treadway four and Taylor Love three. Braxton County Eagle senior Hunter Sodaro led all scorers with 16 points but it wasn't enough by a long shot. Taylor Bragg added nine points, Baylee Stewart six, Anne Golinsky four and Caitlin Rhodes two. For Ravenswood, Hannah Murray grabbed seven rebounds and blocked six shots. Taylor Treadway grabeed six caroms and Hailey Miller five. Melonna Carmichael and Murray dished off four assists each. Treadway notched four steals, Murray three and Taylor Youell and Hailey Miller two each. “I thought the girls played great and shared the ball well,” said Coach Williams. "We're glad to be playing the regional at home, and not having to make another long road trip. If we get on a bus again, it will be to go to the state tournament.” Friday night's sectional championship sets up a rematch with Fairmont Senior (16-6) in the Region 1 co-finals Wednesday night at The Pit in Ravenswood. The Polar Bears, installed as the Region 1 top-seed, lost in the Section 1 championship game on their home court Friday night to North Marion (17-4), 51-50. Fairmont Senior had defeated the Huskies twice during the regular season. Ravenswood dropped a 47-45 decision at Fairmont Senior during the regular season on a pair of free throws with four seconds left after rallying to lead in the final minutes.
