  • RAVENSWOOD – The second season for the Ravenswood Red Devils will begin at home this Monday night.
Ravenswood will open Class AA sectional tournament play by hosting the Braxton County Eagles. In the five-team Class AA Region 1, Section 2 event the Red Devils garnered the No. 4 seed while Braxton is the No. 5 seed.
"For starters, it's nice that we don't have to travel to Braxton," said Red Devil head coach Mick Price. "It has been a long time since we played a home sectional game."
The past several years sectional games involving the Devils have been played at neutral sites, with the bulk unfolding at the Ripley Health Center.
A win by the Devils over Braxton will put them on the road for a Tuesday night showdown against No. 1 seed Webster County. The two met earlier in the season with Webster winning, 57-43.
An upset of the Highlanders would find the Devils in action on Friday night against the winner of Tuesday night's meeting between No. 3 seed Ritchie at No. 2 Roane County. The Friday contest would be played on the home court of the Ritchie-Roane survivor.
Ravenswood lost twice to both Roane (46-43 and 58-50) and Ritchie (50-38 and 76-62) during the regular season.
"This is a very good sectional," said Price. "Webster, Ritchie and Roane have all had good seasons."
The champ of Section 2 will advance to host the runner-up in the Region 1, Section 1 tourney featuring North Marion, Fairmont Senior, North Marion, Weir and Oak Glen. The Section 1 title winner will be at home to play the Section 2 runner-up.
The victors in the co-regional finals will advance to the Class AA portion of the 2013 State Tournament set for March 13-16 at the Charleston Civic Center.
