  • LOST CREEK – In his 35 years as the head coach at Ravenswood High School, Mick Price has taken his Red Devils a lot of places.
Never before, though, had a Devil basketball team ventured to South Harrison High School in Lost Creek. That is until last Thursday night.
Ravenswood met the Hawks in the Little Kanawha Conference's 7th place game as part of the league's Night of Champions event and came away with a 46-42 victory.
Price was impressed with what he saw at the Harrison County school located off Interstate 79.
"They have very nice facilities," said Price. "It is a really clean school."
In addition to liking the surroundings, Price was even happier to leave the SHHS campus with a win.
"We made several adjustments in the game because they were constantly changing defenses," Price said. "We got some good stops on the defensive side of the ball."
Ravenswood and South Harrison both struggled out of the gate with the Hawks owning a 7-5 lead at the end of the opening eight minutes. Ravenswood would then take a 22-17 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter, South Harrison managed to close the gap to one at 33-32. Ravenswood outscored the Hawks in the fourth, 13-10, to account for the final four-point margin of victory.
The Devils did a good at the free throw line to secure the win, hitting 14-of-17. The bulk of their makes at the line came in the fourth quarter by going 9-of-11.
Jake Martin paced the Devils in scoring with 24 points. Martin nailed eight field goals, including a 3-pointer, and was a perfect 7-of-7 at the line.
Heath Burgess also hit double figures for the Devils with 15 points, making five field goals and knocking down 3-of-4 from the stripe.
Dalton Gandee had five points in the game, hitting a 3-pointer and making both free throw attempts. Dylan Radabaugh and Jon Crow each scored two for the Devils.
Martin snagged 10 of Ravenswood's 28 rebounds while Burgess came up with four steals and dished out four assists.
Logan Kirby led South Harrison in scoring with 13. Zach Wentzell also hit double figures with 11.
