It’s an exciting time at Jack’s Abby Brewing in Framingham.
They recently installed new tanks. They’ve announced that they’re expanding, and if you watched the Seacoast Beverage Lab Hangout last night, you heard Jack Hendler announce two new collaboration beers. If you didn’t watch it, click here.
But before all that, Jack’s Abby Brewing is hosting a Battle of the Barrels event tomorrow (Wednesday) at the British Beer Company in Framingham.
Brewer Jack, his two assistants (Mike and Matt) and Dan Eng of Barleycorn’s, each got to do their own version of a barrel-aged Smoke & Dagger. The rules were each of them had $40 to buy any ingredient they want.
On Wednesday, Jack’s Abby fans will have a chance to vote on what beer is best. There will also be a panel of judges, which include Aaron Matecychuk and Kelly McKnight of Watch City Brewing Company in Waltham; Todd Bellomy of Boston Beer Company, Jamie McGee of Yankee Brew News and myself.
Beginning at 6 p.m., paddles of all four beers will be available, as well as a scorecard to rate the beers.
The beers look … interesting. One is made with Szechuan pepper; the second is made with almond and ground coconut; the third is made with maple bacon, maple syrup and bourbon and the last entry is made with cranberry, ginger, pistachio, cherry wood smoked malt, chocolate and coffee.
Can’t wait to try them all.
Now back to the collaborations. Hendler announced he will be brewing a beer Lawson’s Finest Liquids of Vermont. The beer, like all of Jack’s Abby beers, will be a lager, and it will be brewed with maple syrup from the Hendler’s family farm in Vermont. It will be brewed and bottled in Framingham.
The second collaboration is with D.C. Brau of Washington D.C. Hendler did not release any details about that beer, but said it is being brewed for the Beer Advocate American Craft Beer Fest held in June.
