Though the year was challenging, it was also prosperous due to the generosity of so many caring churches, businesses, and individuals in our community.
We are blessed to have Pastor Chris Skeens take the place of Rev. Thomas Dummermuth who recently moved to Nebraska with his new bride.
Chris will be a great asset to our food pantry and BOD’s as our new Ministerial Advisor.
Also we would like to mention a Get Well Soon to Barbara Shannon Fenney, our secretary and pantry shopper. She is a vital part of this organization and is truly missed.
After several attempts to acquire grants in 2012, we received $1,000 from Wal-Mart. This money is ear marked for extra food at Easter. We will continue to apply for more grants, as our administrative needs continue to grow.
The pantries fax machine is a relic and the file cabinets’ are rusted and dented. We do not even own a ladder or a cart to help the volunteers bring donations into the pantry.
The food pantry will be starting a drive to collect money for a new computer. Ours is a 2000 model and God only knows how much longer it will continue working.
You will see collection jars around town for donations or you can talk to Bob Grimmett at Robert Mason in the Plaza.
The 2012 NHFP statistics show that our clientele had decreased in 2012, but the cost of food has risen significantly. (See chart)
In the entire year of 2012 the pantry did not receive any meat from the government, but in January 2013 USDA provided us with a large amount of chicken.
Thanks to Tim Witt, Foodfair manager for storing the extra chicken for us.
In the past several months the pantry has lost several valuable volunteers. We would appreciate any able bodies to donate their time to serving the community.
If you would commit three hours, even one day a week, it would help us a lot.
As mentioned before, our shopper is ill and she is not sure when she will be able to return to volunteering.
This position is vital to keeping the pantry running. We are praying the Lord will send us someone or several people to fill in for Barb.
If you feel led to help us, please call the No Hunger Food Pantry at (304)512-7309.
Again our heart felt thanks to each of you for your prayers and support.
