Ravenswood Police Chief Lance Morrison stated that there are individuals who are taking advantage of folks in person or via telephone.
Said Morrison, "They are calling and using the identity of a family member to access money."
The monetary amount of the scam varies from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Usually the caller will ask that the funds must be sent from Western Union to a specific account.
In the door to door scams Morrison said, "Someone will come to your house and offer to shampoo your carpets for free. Once inside they scout the house for valuables and come back later to rob the homeowners."
All door-to-door sales in the City of Ravenswood require a business license which is obtained in Ravenswood's City Hall.
Morrison recommends that residents use caution.
