  • Devilettes roll Roane, 72-31, for fifth straight win

  • RAVENSWOOD – Coach Cara Williams's Red Devilettes opened with a 9-0 run and never looked back in rolling over visiting Roane County, 72-31, Tuesday at the RvHS Physical Education Building. It was Ravenswood's fifth straight win and lifted the Devilettes to 11-5 on the season.
    Sophomore Hailey Miller continued her assault on the hoops with 19 points including 11-for-12 from the free throw line to lead all scorers. Three other Devilettes put up double digit scoring—seniors Melonna Carmichael (14 points), Taylor Youell (12 points) and Hannah Murray (11 points). Sophomores Taylor Treadway and Kayla Scritchfield chipped in seven points each; and sophomore Mariah Jackson added two points from the free throw line.
    Ravenswood expanded their 9-0 start to a 17-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter and tacked on 20 more points in the second period to just six for the Raiders. The Devilettes led 37-11 at the half.
    Roane went on a a three-point scoring spurt in the third quarter but could only out score Ravenswood, 18-16, with their bombs. The Devilettes led 53-29 after three quarters of play.
    Ravenswood then buried the Raiders, 19-2, over the final eight minutes to salt away the victory as Williams emptied her bench.
    Cassidy Taylor (two treys) paced the Raiders with 13 points. Becky Frye (two treys) added 10 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Kasey Blossser added four, and Rochelle McCroskey and Kipra Rhodes two points each.
    For the Devilettes, Miller posted a double-double with 10 rebounds to go with her 19 points. Taylor Treadway and Hannah Murray had nine boards each among 42 for the team..
    Melonna Carmichael dished off six of Ravenswood's 12 assists. Taylor Youell dished off a pair.
    Kayla Scritchfield notched six of the Devilettes' 16 steals on the night. Carmichael had four swipes to her credit.
    "We played well," said Coach Williams. "We had a few breakdowns, but overall I was pleased. My main concern is for us to play to our potential against every opponent and beat the teams we should beat."
    Ravenswood won the jayvee preliminary, 43-24, behind 18 points from freshman Taylor Love. Mariah Jackson added six, Taylor Treadway five, Kayla Scritchfield four, Paige Barr and Hailey Miller three each, and Casey Snodgrass and Maddison Carpenter two each.
    Ashley Parsons scored five points to pace Roane. Allie Ross, Abby Kennell, Chelsea Metz and Rochelle McCroskey added three points each.
    Ravenswood (11-5) hosts Ritchie County Saturday night in a 6 p.m./7:30 p.m. double dribbler rematch. The sectional rival Rebels (7-7) nipped the Devilette varsity, 60-57, December 18 at Ellenboro behind 33 points (five treys) and 10 rebounds from senior guard Tristan Toman.
