MINGO COUNTY – Casy Smith scored 30 points and hit a jumper with one second left on the clock to enable the Ripley High cagers to notch their third victory in a row, 71-70 at Mingo Central.
Ripley (5-8) went on a 27-15 run in the final period to secure the victory, largely because of Smith's heroics.
The senior guard hit 8-of-14 shots from the field including a spectacular 4-of-5 from 3-point range. Smith hit a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left to bring Ripley to within 69-67. A Drew Harpold bucket made it 70-69 setting up Smith's game winner.
Smith had a tremendous game for Ripley the previous night as he scored 14 in a victory over Ravenswood in the Jackson County Shootout.
Kade Harrison added 13, Jacob Haynes 12, Drew Harpold five, Cody Sanders and Chuck Sleboda four, Luke Layhew two and Austin Parsons one.
Ripley hosts Princeton on Tuesday.
